For some time now, and after a lot of lovely requests, I have been thinking about making some short courses and workshops that cover and combine each of the different techniques I use in my work in a way that is as much about creativity and experimentation as it is about the techniques themselves.
Cross pollination, experimentation and combining different techniques is very much part of my creative practice, so it made sense for me to devise a way of teaching that reflects this and is more modular and fluid. It also felt like it could be an exciting and enriching way for me to share my knowledge and experience.
I’m planning some 1-4 day courses centred around a main subject choice, but with the possibility to ‘add on’ more time, learning and combining another compatible technique if desired. We will not simply learn techniques, but will be developing ideas, experimenting in different ways, discussing creative process, responding, adapting and evolving as we go.
I will be taking just two students at a time!
I really want these workshops to be as flexible, informative and creative as possible, so I have added an enquiry form that will allow me to capture all the information I need to devise and deliver a great bespoke experience. This will hopefully foster a supportive small environment to share technique, ideas, experience and chats in an informal but rich and collaborative way, with two people who have similar interests and ambitions!
You can find the form at the bottom, under workshop details and information.
When
I plan to hold these workshops on the last Thursday and Friday of each month, continuing into the weekend if a four day course in chosen. For example
26-27 September - One place left
24-25 October - One place left
21-22 November - FULL
There is some flexibility in this, as I’m aware some people are available weekends only. Weekend dates could also be possible if requested, just add that to the enquiry form!
Where
I have a studio at the amazing facility that is Krowji, located just off the A30 at Redruth. It is a small space, just shy of 3m square and pretty compact!
We have kitchens with microwaves and kettles, plenty of parking and the best on site cafe called The grow box (mon-fri) selling amazing foods.

£150 per day, per person.

Paper Lithography - 2 days
Paper lithography is a very exciting and versatile printing technique with endless variations and possibilities. It is a very accessible form of print making using fairly simple equipment and can be done with or without a press.
As it’s a form of lithography it’s all about the resist quality of oil and water, using the greasy qualities inherent in toner based printer ink (photocopy/laser) to create a printing ‘plate’ with allows you to arrange printed matter onto many different surfaces and adapt it to your own artistic style.
Day one - basic technique
Spend time learning the basic technique of paper lithography…
Learn which images will work best for you and how to edit them for a basic print
Ink mixing, plate preparation
Papers and printing
Day two - develop and evolve your technique
Developing ideas moving forwards
adapting and evolving how you make the plate
Consider plate and paper size with creative composition
Evolve inking technique using colour, transparency etc
