What is a monotype?
Monotype has its own unique form of expression and certain types of marks and imagery can only be obtained using the monotype process. Known as the most painterly method among the printmaking techniques, a monotype is essentially a hand printed painting.
The monotype process makes these prints one of a kind and does not employ repeatable elements. The artist starts with a clean plate every time which usually only allows for one print to be taken, making each piece truly unique.
